Welcome to iBala Consortium
iBala consortium is a group composed of information professionals who are keen to investigate the possibilities of delivering information services via mobile technology. The consortium aims to build a community of information professionals who are passionate about mobile technology and mobile development in the library and information services field.
iBala is a Xhosa word that means a playground. This word came into existence when a blog was created for the purposes of lashing out fustrations, raising ideas, and most importantly to record the journey and the life of the iBala consortium.
The Consortium wishes to see this space grow to attract professionals from all over South Africa and the world. iBala Consortium is currently investigating, but not limited to, these technologies:
- Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD)
- QR Coding
- SMS
- Downloadable mobile apps
We recently completed a mobile workshop at the 10th anniversary conference of the SAOIM. The workshop presentations have been uploaded as 10th Southern African Online Information Meeting
The iBala Consortium community of practice was launched on 09 September 2010, please see the invite for more details.
